to do perspective on AutoCAD 2008
You do perspective with camera.
Open a blank AutoCAD and make a box to practice this.
On plan view,
Type camera
enter
First click is where the camera is going to be
Second click is the direction of the camera
enter
Click on the camera,
you see camera preview window pop up
If you do not see the perspective in the camera preview window, your
camera is too high or low
Go to any side view and move camera down or up
You can click on
the camera and make blue boxes
You can click on a blue box to move camera, its direction, and angle
of the camera

Now you can render

Lights
Go to the top view when you place the light.
To dim the light, double click on the light to open property window.
Change the intensity (1 is existing, 2 for twice brightness, 0.5 for
half)
To do rendering:

Advanced Render Settings
Change the destination to Viewport
When you are ready for final, change the top windows to Presentation
(Caution: it will take long time, 5 to 10 min, to generate the rendering)
Turn on Texture
Turn on shadow
Change
background color in 2008
You need to add a camera to change the background color (see above)

Click on the right window at "Background override"
Change <none> to Solid or other
For
AutoCAD 2006 or earlier:
Do not use Shade or "Hidden" view when you use
DVIEW
Use 2D Wireframe

(Start this in the plan view. If not, type PLAN, then W and Enter.)
Type DV
Enter
Select everything by using the box
selection (click at one corner of the screen then drug the mouse down
to make a box, then click again)

(First click is where you are looking at, second click is where you
stand)
Type D (DISTANCE)
Enter
(Move the mouse left or right to make the picture about the size of
the window)
Type Z (ZOOM)
Enter
(Move the mouse left or right to make the picture to the size of your
choice)
Type PA (PAN) (PA moves the image
in 2 point perspective)
Enter
(Click the mouse and move the image)
Click mouse to end
Try using CAMERA instead of PAN for 3-point
perspective (Once you use camera, it will not go back to 2 point perspective)
Enter (Do not forget this final Enter to
end DVIEW)
Type PA
(PAN) (PA moves the image in 2 point perspective)
Enter
(Click the mouse and move the image)
Click mouse to end
Enter (Do not forget this final Enter to
end DVIEW)
Orbit
Press ORBIT button
Right click the mouse
Select Preset Views and select one such as SW Isometric
Click and hold mouse at inside of the green circle
(the object rotates in 3D)
When the mouse goes outside of green circle, it rotates 2D
Perspective View
Right click the mouse button
Select Projection then Perspective
Smooth Shading
Right click the mouse button
Select Shading Mode then Graduated
Shade

Select More then Adjust Distance
Use left mouse button, click at image and
move mouse up or down

Use left mouse button, click at image and move mouse up or down
Moving Orbit

Continuous Orbit
Click the image and spin the image
Click to stop
Clipping Planes
(making section view)
Right click the mouse
Select More then Front
Clipping On
Right click the mouse
Select More then Adjust
Clipping Planes
Click and hold mouse and move up or down until the object is sliced
If
you cannot see the clipping line, go back to the plan view and make
the image very small then start Orbit over again
